  • Your relationship with your child, including managing their emotions and behaviour.

  • Challenges to daily routines like eating, sleeping or toileting.

  • Managing times of change such as becoming a parent, your child starting a new school or parental separation.

  • The experience of being a parent.

  • The differences in parenting styles between two parents.

About Me

Headshot of Dr. Pandora Giles

I am an Educational and Child Psychologist with over twenty years experience of working with families. I have a particular interest in using my psychological skills to support parents. This began as a professional interest which was deepened when I became a parent myself. I provide psychological support to parents and carers of children, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).I also practice as an Educational and Child Psychologist, working in schools for an inner London local authority. I am an academic tutor on an Educational and Child Psychology Doctoral training programme, an editor of a professional periodical and a published author.

  • Doctorate in Educational and Child Psychology from UCL

  • Certificate in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) with Children and Young People from UCL/Anna Freud Centre

  • Bachelor of Science in Psychology from The University of Manchester

  • Registered Practitioner Psychologist with the HCPC (PYL27048)

  • Enhanced DBS

  • Fellow of the Higher Education Academy

My Approach

I provide a space for parents to talk about their experience of parenting using consultation and coaching. My work is with you, as the parent, rather than with your child. I listen to your concerns and we focus on your priorities. The focus can be on action: we come up with new approaches for you to try with your child. Other times the focus is on reflection: making sense of your situation and experiences. The experience of parenting is different for everyone and so I start by understanding your beliefs and values related to parenting. I draw on cognitive behavioural approaches, solution-focused thinking and narrative psychology.

On occasion I signpost parents to other services. It might be that the involvement needed is more to do with your child rather than talking about parenting, in which case I would signpost you to your school/nursery or local Educational Psychology Service. If it seems that you would benefit from a talking therapy, we can talk about what sort of therapy you may want to seek.
